Cercando (2006-2012)

I spent about 10 years of my life, from 26-36, living and working throughout Italy. 10 years under which I was subject to work exploitation and chronic labour irregularities.

From 2010-2012, I collected handwritten signs left around different cities, mostly written by foreigners. Altering the phone numbers so as to maintain anonymity, I selected the signs in which the direness of the writer’s situation transpired through the choice of language and/or material support chosen.

‘Cercando’ is an everyday archive of the traces of people offering themselves for “anything” at “any time”, hoping to make ends meet in a unregulated and heavily migrant-dependent informal labour market.
