The Tactical Consulting Room

When I was 23, I worked in a whiskey piano bar near Shinagawa station in Tokyo. I had to wear a skirt and make-up; my job consisted mainly in sitting at a table with clients and being a “pleasant” and “attentive” English conversation partner, filling their empty whiskey glasses and lighting their cigarettes.

La Consultoría de Tácticas/The Tactical Consulting Room is a performance inspired by the workshop Investigating Language and Power Dynamics (2017- ) and Mladen Stilinović´s piece An Artist Who Cannot Speak English Is No Artist (1992). The consultant operates from an intimate space in which those who enter can enjoy a drink and pick cards guiding conversations on strategies and tactics related to language and power dynamics.
